Analysis of the match between Atalanta and Inter
Sitting at the top of the Serie A table with a one-point lead over city rivals AC Milan and a two-point advantage over defending champions Napoli, Inter had to work hard in their most recent league match, edging Genoa 2-1. Prior to that, the Nerazzurri were in excellent form with three consecutive domestic victories and also secured a place in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. However, their Italian Super Cup campaign came to an end in the semi-finals after a penalty shootout defeat to Bologna.
That result once again raised questions about head coach Chivu’s ability to manage big matches, especially following disappointing outcomes against top opponents such as Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, Milan, Juventus and Napoli. Nevertheless, when facing weaker sides, Inter have consistently shown their superiority and claimed convincing wins.
Scoring four goals against Como and netting twice against both Pisa and Genoa in recent weeks highlights Inter’s formidable attacking power, with the Nerazzurri currently boasting the most productive offense in Serie A. In the upcoming away fixture, they are expected to push for another high-scoring performance against one of their favorite opponents.
Despite being one of Serie A’s strongest teams over the past decade, Atalanta have often struggled against Inter. The Bergamo side have lost all of their last six league meetings, while Inter are unbeaten in 13 consecutive Serie A matches against them.
At present, Atalanta’s form offers little optimism. They have managed just one win in their last five matches, making a clash with Inter far from the ideal way to close out 2025. Notably, Atalanta have failed to score in half of their recent home games against Inter (4 out of 8) and are still searching for their first league victory over the Nerazzurri since November 2018.
